No se como lo hacen ustedes pero yo cada mañana me voy despertando con mi cafecito BRACAFÉ mientras ojeo La Vanguardia para hacerme una idea de como anda el mundo antes de salir de casa. Después de un vistazo rápido a la portada en general con noticias poco alentadoras, paso a  la sección de semáforos para centrarme en "los verdes", para animar un poco el día! Pues hoy ha sido uno de esos días que, medio dormido, al no tener prisa para salir de casa puesto que estamos de fiesta en Barcelona, exclamo "eiiii, collonut!" :  nuestro Mateo con semáforo verde! y leo: Mateo Valero, director del BSC, ha sido galardonado con el premio Seymour Cray, el premio de supercomputación más importante del mundo. Adaptive MapReduce Scheduling in Shared Environments

Jordà Polo presented our last research in Map Reduce at the 14TH IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Cluster, Cloud and Grid Computing  held in Chicago. In this paper we present a MapReduce task scheduler for shared environments in which MapReduce is executed along with other resource-consuming workloads, such as transactional applications. All workloads may potentially share the same data store, some of them consuming data for analytics purposes while others acting as data generators. This kind of scenario is becoming increasingly important in data centers where improved resource utilization can be achieved through workload consolidation, and is specially challenging due to the interaction between workloads of different nature that compete for limited resources. Nos visita el Dr. P. Mockapetris uno de los pioneros de Internet

El Dr. Paul Mockapetris nos visita en el BSC, un verdadero lujo!.  El Dr. Paul Mockapetris es el inventor del DNS ( Domain Name Service, Sistema de Nombres de Dominio), el sistema de nombres que todos usamos para traducir los dominios de Internet a dirección IP y vice-versa. Aunque Internet sólo funciona en base a direcciones IP, el DNS ha permitido que los humanos usemos nombres de dominio que son bastante más simples de recordar, hecho clave en la expansión del uso de Internet. El sistema de nombres de dominios en Internet que ideó el Dr. P. Mockapetris es un sistema distribuido, jerárquico, replicado y tolerante a fallos. Verdaderamente genial!.
